A German chef has blown his hand off after experimenting with a Heston-Blumenthal cooking technique.
The 24-year-old had his other hand amputated in hospital.
It happened at his girlfriend's mother's house near Berlin when he went into the bathroom with a bottle of liquid nitrogen.
Liquid nitrogen can cause frostbite in humans upon contact, and can also create an explosion if the liquid turns to gas too quickly.
Heston Blumenthal rose to fame cooking with the chemical - a technique known as "molecular gastronomy".
