Army to give troops caffeinated meat

Food scientists want to create a meal, full of meat, loaded with enough caffeine to keep any soldier wide awake.

An Army laboratory is testing a beef jerky stick that may look like any beef jerky stick, but this beef jerky stick contains the same amount of caffeine as a cup of coffee.

Other supplements such as omega 3 and curcumin, which acts as an anti-inflammatory are also part of the experiment.
Maltodextrin - a complex carbohydrate gives people an extra rush and is being put into an applesauce they have called Zapplesauce.

These dishes have a shelf-life of three years at 80 degrees and can withstand an airdrop from thousands of feet may just prove popular for the first time.

Recent additions include chicken and pesto pasta, feta cheese and tomato, soldiers now have a choice, like ratatouille, garlic mashed potatoes, salsa verde and a strawberry-banana dairy shake.
There is even an instant Irish-cream coffee just by adding hot water.
The Food technologists studied menus at T.G.I. Friday’s and Applebee’s restaurants in the U.S. for inspiration .
