Egg shell carving in China

Amazing patterns of artwork on eggshell, the origins of egg shell carving dates back to the 14th century and the Ming Dynasty in China.
In ancient China it was common to give red eggs as a gift at important and festive celebrations.

The mastery of egg shell art begins with the removal of egg whites and yoke, then the disinfection processes needs to be completed before the carving.
A small hole is made at one end of the egg, then using carving tools: a burin, shovel knife, pencil, eraser, knife, whetstone and nicking tool, the carving begins.
