Rice bread baking machine a big hit

Give us this rice our daily bread.

Imagine, a home breadmaking machine that grinds rice and bakes a loaf of fresh bread.
This bread machine has become such a hit in Japan that its maker is overwhelmed by demand.
The company has had to stop taking orders just three weeks after putting the machine on sale.

This bread machine isn't cheap either, around 50,000 yen ($600).
Sanyo Electric Co said that orders for its Gopan breadmaker were going to hit 58,000 by the end of the month, its original sales target for the end of March next year.

All users have to do is wash the rice and add a few other ingredients into the Gopan,  the name is a combination of the Japanese for "rice" and "bread," and press the start button.
The machine does everything else, from milling the rice to the kneading, rising and baking that other home breadmaking machines also do.

"There's a lot of people who are getting more nervous about what's in their food, especially things like bread that could contain additives. This allows them to see exactly what goes in."

Sanyo is likely to resume taking orders for the Gopan next April after increasing production.

Dead Mouse Found In Loaf of Bread

Stephen Forse was making sandwiches for his children when he noticed a dark-coloured object embedded in some of the  slices.
A moment later he understood, there was a dead mouse in the loaf of bread he was slicing.
"As I looked closer, I saw that the object had fur on it,"Stephen Forse said.
As a result,  the maker of this Hovis loaf has been fined because of the dead mouse found in the aforementioned sandwich bread.

For whatever it's worth, Mr Forse bought the bread from Tesco Online.

To make matters worse, the mouse was without a tail.
Mr Forse felt ill when he realozed no one knew where the tail was. (anyone want to guess?)
He said,"Had it fallen off prior to the bread being wrapped or had any of my family eaten it with another slice of bread on a previous day?"

The manufacturer is Premier Foods and they have been fined £5,500 and ordered to pay an additional £11,109.47 in costs at Oxford Crown Court for failing to maintain  standards at their site in Mitcham, south London.
A spokesman for Premier Foods said: "We apologize profusely for the distress caused as a result of this isolated incident."

Isolated?
That remains to be seen or perhaps eaten.

Woman Arrested - Hitting Boyfriend with a Steak

This Florida woman, 53, has been arrested  for hitting her boyfriend several times in the head with a raw steak. 
Peter Schabhuttl, the 49 year old boyfriend, is described by the police as disabled and terminally ill with cancer.
He told the police that Egan, his live-in girlfriend of 16 years (just imagine), hit him "on top of his head with an uncooked steak (approximately 10-16 oz.)" after they quarreled about bread to be consumed at dinner. Schabhuttl wanted a roll. Egan, however, wanted him to eat sliced bread. "He said that when he refused, she attacked him with the steak."
Even though Egan denied attacking him with the steak, she admitted slapping Schabhuttl several times "so that he can learn."

Life in Little Slices

With Halloween on the way we had to share Thai artist Kittiwat Unarrom with you.
He has given new meaning to one of the world’s most basic food items and it’s not pretty.

These graphic, gory plastic wrapped heads are actually loaves of bread.

This all started as a university competition for Unarrom and has turned into a full-time interest that keeps him busy for six hours a day.

Because of the big demand for his work prices have gone up to $500 for one loaf of his death bread.

So far this guy is the most impressive talent we have seen, with his culinary knowledge and artistic skills he really does give new meaning to Life in Little Slices, and it’s not pretty.

Beliefs That Surround Food.

The Voodoo Kitchen has prepared a list of a few older beliefs that surround food.
Many of these beliefs derive from Europe and therefore ultimately found their way around the world through as we colonized.

HOLES IN A LOAF OF BREAD: If you found a hole in a loaf of bread when you sliced it, the meaning symbolized a coffin and meant that someone was soon going to die. If someone discovered a loaf with holes, there would be great discussions trying to figure out who it might die next. Of course, it seems that most all loaves of bread have some holes in it.

CROSSED BREAD: This old belief dictated that all loaves of bread must be marked with a sign of the cross before baking. The cross would prevent evill from sitting on the loaf – and thereby prevent him from cursing or spoiling the bread.

GARLIC: there is an ancient belief called the Evil Eye and it's believed that when someone gives you the evil eye, misfortune will befall you. To prevent the evil eye from affecting you is to carry around a piece of garlic. We eat a bunch of garlic, we wonder if that works as well?
