Child ill from eating 'bathtub cheese'

A Washoe County child became seriously ill after eating homemade batrhtub cheese that was sold door-to-door.
The foodborne illness campylobacter,causes diarrhea, abdominal pain, weakness, fever, nausea and vomiting, can also be fatal.
Health Department people said, "We were lucky enough to get a sample of the cheese, and that's rare because it's usually all been eaten," she said. "This time, we were able to confirm the cheese was the source of the illness," homemade bathtub cheese
This cheese, also known as "Mexican bathtub cheese," or queso fresco, is usually made in homes without the health standards we have come to expect.
Currently, this cheese is being sold door-to-door in the Truckee Meadows throughout Hispanic communities, health officials said.
Yes, it's called bathtub cheese because bathtub cheese, or Mexican-style soft cheese often is made in bathtubs.
