Here are the simple instructions:
Pop the popcorn directly before you begin making the balls. Fresh popcorn will result in better-tasting popcorn balls.
Form the popcorn balls while the liquid mixture is still hot.
For an easier formation process, grease your hands with vegetable shortening before forming the popcorn balls.
Pack the popcorn balls loosely. If they are packed too tightly, they will be difficult to eat.
1/2 cup sugar
1 Tablespoon butter
1/2 teaspoon. salt
3 quarts freshly popped corn
Slowly melt butter in frying pan.
Now add the molasses and sugar.
Bring to a simmer, now it's time to test it.
Place several drops in cold water, when it become brittle it's ready.

Pour the mixture over the salted popcorn gradually while stirring, cover all the popcorn.
When it's all mixed, shape into balls.
