Only McDonald's will be allowed to serve French Fries at the Olympics

McDonald's has arm twisted the Olympics to ban all other restaurants from selling French fries, unless it's served with fish.
This demand will make life difficult for hundreds of restaurants and food retailers who would otherwise serve fries with many popular dishes.
Olympic decision makers have banned all 800 food retailers at the 40 Games venues across Britain from serving French fries because of 'sponsorship obligations.'

The memo reads: 'Due to sponsorship obligations with McDonalds, Locog have instructed the catering team they are no longer allowed to serve chips on their own anywhere within the Olympic park.
'The only loophole to this is if it is served with fish.'
'Please understand this is not the decision of the staff serving up your meals, who given the choice would gladly give it you however they are not allowed to.
'This is being escalated through to the directors of L2012C and Locog and the IOC.
'Please do not give the staff grief; this will only lead to us removing fish and chips completely.
'Everyone has a right to work in a none abusive environment.'

But the ban on fries means visitors from all over the world will be not be enjoying British favourites, including sauage and chips, gammon, egg and chips, lasgane and chips, steak and chips and chicken and chips.

French Fries will only be allowed to be sold with fish, saving at least one British classic.

Man shot arguing over french fries or was it cake?

We turn attention to Philadelphia where a man was shot after arguing over french fries, or maybe it was cake, well, it was food of some kind.
Two men were in a parked car around 2:40 a.m.having a bite to eat when an argument broke out over french fries, according to police.
The two men got out of the silver Mercedes, started fighting each other, and that’s when one of them pulled out a gun and shot the other.
Even though one report says it was because of french fries, another report by police investigators say when the passenger in the vehicle began eating cake the driver had in his car things got crazy.
The driver became furious and the two began arguing, a Central Detectives investigator said.
The driver shot his friend once in the chest - all over some cake, according to the investigator.
"They weren't supposed to be sharing" he said. "One was eating the other's food, they got into an argument and 'Bang! Bang!'"
The investigator denied a conflicting report that french fries were at the center of the argument. But food was the reason regardless.
Police said the 31-year-old victim was rushed to the Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
The driver fled in his silver Mercedes.

Michelle Obama - Cheeseburgers and Fries

When President Obama is on the road eating fast food, he often says,  "Don't tell Michelle."

But Michelle Obama, known for her healthy eating lectures was in Milwaukee on this week and stopped by Miss Katie's Diner and had a cheeseburger and fries.
But unlike her husband, do not attempt to take a photograph of the First Lady eating a cheeseburger.
Customers had their cellphones temporarily confiscated to prevent pictures from being taken.

They say a picture is worth a 1000 words, and the photo above speaks volumes.

This shouldn't even be news, but it is.

How to make the perfect Posh Chips

We really enjoy good chips, (french fries) and Heston Blumenthal has the perfect Posh chips.
Until he started experimenting in 1993, people thought they could get away with cooking their chips once in hot oil and have the perfect crunchy chip.
But they were wrong!
The French have long understood that a chip needs to be fried twice to achieve crunchy perfection , but Blumenthal wanted to take it even farther to create “a glass-like crust and a soft, fluffy center”.
He introduced an extra stage in the cooking process — a pre-boiling in water until the potato was all but falling apart.
The chips were then dried in the refrigerator, before two separate frying's in peanut oil.
This is how the celebrated triple-cooked chip was born.

  • Put a pot of salted water on, to a simmering boil.
  • Cut the potatoes into 1/2 inch strips.
  • Simmer until just cooked through – you don’t want them to fall apart.
  • Remove with a slotted spoon – place them where they can drain and dry in the refrigerator.
  • When they’re cool fry them in peanut oil that’s 250 degrees.
  • Fry them, but don’t let them color – remove from oil, drain; and place back into the fridge.
  • When cooled, fry them again at about 375 degrees until browned.
  • Drain, season and serve.
