The Battle of the Burgers

There is more than three pounds of ground beef, 12 slices of bacon, a dozen slices of cheese, with 12 onion rings.

This monstrosity of a burger is being served up at Smokeys, a new restaurant in the Black Country, Walsall, West Midlands.

They have been open for several weeks now and no one has completed the challenge of eating the 12-inch burger in an hour.

Four friends started up Smokeys restaurant in hopes the company will be able to offer apprenticeships and one day become a chain.

The four friends are: Dean Keys and his brother Dale Keys, David Corr and John Cadrick, and they were inspired by  Man vs Food and their visits to America.

Yes, this is a really big burger, but the 'world's largest burger' was 'constructed' at the Alameda County Fair in California. (see photo below)

Weighing in at 777lbs, is three feet thick and five feet in diameter. Guinness have approved the feat as a world record, beating the previous 'holder' from Canada by 187lbs.

But, we congratulate Smokeys, and if we are ever in your neighborhood, we'll take you up the burger challenge.

The World's Most Expensive Burger $295.00

New York City restaurant Serendipity 3 has the world’s most expensive hamburger, and now it's in the Guinness World Records.

Called ‘Le Burger Extravagant’, the burger costs US$295—and is made from “a mix of Japanese Wagyu beef infused with 10-herb white truffle butter, seasoned with Salish Alderwood smoked Pacific sea salt,” topped with cheddar cheese by famous England cheesemaker James Motgomery, black truffles and a fried quail egg; and “served on a gold-dusted campagna roll spread with white truffle butter”; and topped with blini, crème fraiche and Kaluga caviar.

The burger also comes with a solid gold “Fleur de Lis” toothpick encrusted with diamonds and designed by world-renowned jeweller Euphoria New York.

The burger can be pre-ordered with a 48-hour notice; profits would be donated to the non-profit organization, The Bowery Mission, that feeds and assists homeless in New York. 

Salads are great, but we really want burgers and fries

No matter what Michelle Obama has been saying for a year and a half about obesity, it seems few are listening.
We know all about the restaurants listing calories on their menus, and we are well aware that people insist they want to eat healthy.
This post may upset some, but the truth is, when we eat out, we order burgers, fries, tacos, shakes, sodas, pizza and some form of fried chicken.

IHOP may offer a Simple & Fit menu with yogurt and fruit bowls, but its top seller is still the breakfast sampler of eggs, bacon, sausage, ham, hash browns and pancakes.

And regardless of what politicians say and do, only 11 percent of parents ordered apple slices as an alternative to fries in McDonald’s Happy Meals.

Remember all the big efforts in New York forcing chain restaurants to start listing calories on menus?
Well, only 15 percent of diners ordered lower-calorie items.

Because people just aren't interested, many chains have scaled back their efforts to feature healthy foods.

Ever seen the long lines at In & Out Burger and Popeye's chicken? There's a reason for that.

The Cheesecake Factory, which introduced a “Skinnylicious” menu with entrees 590 calories or less, says while those foods have also done well, the sales of the rich, decadent cheesecakes are up too.

Here's something else, the "healthier" foods are usually among the most expensive items on the menu.
Perhaps, instead of taxing "fat foods," how about lowering the price of the so called "healthier" choices?

Largest commercially available hamburger was a matter of patriotism

Steve Mallie, owner of Mallie's Sports Grill & Bar in Southgate, Michigan., said he decided to create a record holding burger when he read the current owner for the world's largest was held by Thailand.
Steve says going for a Guinness world record for the largest commercially available hamburger was a matter of patriotism.
"I said, 'Wait a minute. Hamburgers are American. Why should the record be in Thailand?' So I decided to try to break the record myself."
So, in case you are hungry and you want something filling, the largest commercially available hamburger is 185.8 lbs and is available for U.S. $499.

Taiwan and the jaw breaking burger

Taiwan has a dilemma.
They love fast food, just like China, and the Taiwanese just love to sink their teeth into those burgers, especially the really big ones.
As a result many Taiwanese have developed sore jaws and now they can't open their mouths. Professor Hsu Ming-lung of the School of Dentistry at National Yang-Ming University has decided it’s unnatural to open one’s mouth beyond four centimeters to eat.
We've eaten big burgers before, and we never needed advice from professor Hsu Ming-lung.
But some of these burgers are up to eight centimeters in height.
Let's see: there are 3.149606299 inches in 8 centimeters.
3.1 inches, that's it?
Hold on, then these giant Taiwan burgers look nothing like the picture above, they're more like the one you see below.
Sorry professor, that's the size of a regular burger.
Regardless, professor Hsu Ming-lung believes this 3.1 inch burger is causing jaw injuries.
As a result, dentists are fighting mad, they want burger places to either stop selling these gigantic burger monstrosities or put up signs warning people about the jaw injury.
