PETA continues push to rename fish as "Sea Kittens"
PETA continues to push to rename fish as "sea kittens."
According to PETA, "if fish were renamed 'sea kittens,' humans would be less likely to hook and maim the animals for sport or to imprison them in tanks. Sea kittens are intelligent, sensitive animals who deserve respect."
Tracy Reiman, the executive vice president has written a letter to Frederick C. Mish, editor in chief of Merriam-Webster, asking that "sea kitten" be included in the next edition of the company's dictionary.
In her letter, Reiman writes, "By adding 'sea kitten' to the dictionary as a compassionate alternative to the word 'fish,' Merriam-Webster would help turn the tide of prejudice against sea animals. After all, who could possibly want to put a hook through a sea kitten?" (we think the Chinese might)
That's the only photo of a Sea Kitten we could find.
