The show is very popular in the U.K and Australia, where non-professional cooks compete creating dishes, either individually or in teams, for a panel of judges.

Fox must really like Gordon Ramsay because they already have him in two other shows on the network; “Hell’s Kitchen,” and “Kitchen Nightmares.” And there's another one, a special coming up with Ramsay called “Cook Along.”
“Hell’s Kitchen” is the Fox network’s most popular series after “American Idol.”
The details for the new series “Master Chef” are still being worked out but it's expected to look like the Australian version.
The formula is very familiar, cooks prepare food for the judges, they decide who stays and who goes.
After that, contestants compete in challenges every week until one final winner remains.
Pretty much the same as all the other competition shows, but hopefully, Ramsay will make things interesting.
