Headaches? Drink Water

People have been telling us for years that drinking water was the best way to rid yourself of headaches, but we really weren't listening.
Now scientists are saying drinking around seven glasses of water a day was would ease pain and improve the quality of life.

Regularly drinking water can reduce the severity of headaches and migraines, and reducing pain.

Researchers from the University of Maastricht, the Netherlands, saw that patients who drank more water for a bladder problems noticed that migraines were less severe.

Bill Gates funds toilet on tap

Bill Gates is funding a new contraption that filters toilet waste back into 'drinkable' water.

Yes, that's right, the new invention, funded by Bill Gates, plans to turn used toilet water into drinking water.

Manchester University’s Sarah Haigh (above photo) is an expert in nanotechnology - the science of manipulating atoms in matter - and she claims, it could make waste water from toilets safe to drink.
A mixture of bacteria and tiny metal nano-particles will react with the nasty water to extract useful hydrogen, with the remainder filtered again to produce clean water.

The project which has been funded by billionaire Bill Gates has the possibility to transform a range of materials that could extract energy from human waste.

Sarah Haigh says, "I get a lot of comments about the research I do. I don’t mind people making jokes as long as they’re clean ones."
"There has been a lot of research into biofuels. There is a lot of energy already present in human waste. Nano-scale materials mean that you can harvest the hydrogen and turn it into hydrozene - which is basically rocket fuel."

She believes that a scaffold device holding a mixture of bacteria and tiny metal nano-particles will react with the water to extract useful hydrogen, with the remainder filtered again to produce clean water.

Dr Haigh, who working with scientists at Imperial College London and Durham University, was given an initial $100,000 (£63,000) from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

And the group stand to receive $1million from the Gates next year if they show how the chemical reactions they propose can actually work.

The researchers plan to have a prototype ready to demonstrate by 2013.

They plan on turning this essential everyday outing into an investment by developing materials that convert natural waste into a useable resource.

EU bans claim that water prevents dehydration

After three years of intense investigating EU officials have concluded that there is no evidence to prove that drinking water hydrates anyone.
Producers of bottled water are now forbidden by law from claiming that water does hydrates, and will face a two-year jail sentence if they defy the law, which comes into force in the UK next month.

Critics said the EU was defying science and common sense. Conservative MEP Roger Helmer said: “This is stupidity writ large.
“The euro is burning, the EU is falling apart and yet here they are: highly-paid, highly-pensioned officials worrying about the obvious qualities of water and trying to deny us the right to say what is patently true.
“If ever there were an episode which demonstrates the folly of the great European project then this is it.”

The Department for Health disputed the new law. A spokesman said: “Of course water hydrates. While we support the EU in preventing false claims about products, we need to exercise common sense as far as possible."
A meeting of 21 scientists in Parma, Italy, concluded that reduced water content in the body was a symptom of dehydration and not something that drinking water could subsequently control.
Now the EFSA verdict has been turned into an EU law.

Ukip MEP Paul Nuttall said, “I had to read this four or five times before I believed it. It is a perfect example of what Brussels does best. Spend three years, with 20 separate pieces of correspondence before summoning 21 professors to Parma where they decide with great solemnity that drinking water cannot be sold as a way to combat dehydration.
“Then they make this judgment law and make it clear that if anybody dares sell water claiming that it is effective against dehydration they could get into serious legal bother.

Rules banning bent bananas and curved cucumbers were scrapped in 2008 after causing international ridicule.
We believe this law deserves just as much ridicule.

Northern Ireland has a water problem - 60,000 cut off

While Australia has "Biblical" water issues, Northern Ireland has a different water problem.
Over 60,000 homes in Northern Ireland were left without water because engineers temporarily cut off overnight after supplies to allow depleted reservoirs to refill.

The homes were placed on this rotating on/off supply, but the Underfire Northern Ireland Water said it had hoped to end rotation by Saturday but was unable to do so.

To make matters worse, vandals emptied out almost 5,000 gallons of water from temporary tanks in one of the badly hit areas in Coalisland, Co Tyrone.

Freezing, arctic weather, then a sudden thaw caused many pipes to burst in buildings and in the mains supply, draining huge amounts of water from the tanks.

The Scottish Executive is continuing to supply Northern Ireland with thousands of litres of bottled water to help cope with the crisis.

Even though NI Water has the responsibility for leaking pipes in the main system, that responsibility ends when the supply enters properties, then it becomes the property owners problem.

But what's to be done when many of the leaks are affecting unoccupied homes and businesses?

Instead of addressing that issue, NIW spokesperson said, "NI Water would reiterate its appeal to customers to check their premises for any damage to pipes and repair these as soon as possible."

Stormont's Regional Development Minister Conor Murphy yesterday said that there will be an independent probe is to examine the causes of the crisis.

The Water Catcher Robots

We can see it now, water balls flying around your neighborhood, only to return to you with fresh water.
A finalist in the 2009 Electrolux Design Lab competition has created the "Water Catcher" that sends out flying tennis ball-size robots into your neighborhood to collect rainfall.
Once full, the roving water balls automatically return to it's home base tray for filtration, from here, they may then be summoned to you to fill your glass with fresh drinking water.

The video, below, shows how the concept might work.

Astronauts Drink Their Own Recycled Pee

Astronauts Drink Their Own Recycled Pee Oh boy…On Wednesday, astronauts aboard the international space station got their first taste of drinking water recycled from their own urine. As they toasted one another, American astronaut Michael Barratt marveled, “The taste is great.”
WATCH THE ACTION
After watching the video might we ask,“what was everyone at mission control drinking?” This takes Food & Beverage to a brand new level, cheers!
