Denies alcohol enema - 'As a Christian, I would never desecrate my body like that'

Remember Alexander Broughton?
He's the one who was rushed to hospital unconscious with blood alcohol level over five times the limit.

Alexander P. Broughton, (photo above) denies the butt-chugging event and is threatening to take legal action against....well, we aren't sure against who, but he's ready to sue.

He says its impossible that he experienced an alcohol enema because of his religion.

Alexander is threatening to take legal action, claiming that 'as a Christian' he would 'never desecrate his body' in such a way, even though he was rushed to the Medical Center, unconscious with an injured rectum and a blood-alcohol level more than five times the legal limit.

According to police, witness John Patrick Carney, from Broughton's fraternity, told officers his buddy had been butt-chugging wine to get drunk faster.

But in a statement, Broughton said an alcohol enema was 'the most gross idea I have ever heard.'
'I would never do such a thing,' he said. 'I am a Christian who would never desecrate my body in that manner. To do so would be against God's law.'

But officials insist the enema was the reason Broughton 'ended' up in the emergency room, and say evidence collected at the fraternity house after that evening's 'blackout party' supported the claim.

When Broughton was brought to the hospital his blood alcohol level was measured at 0.448 per cent — nearly six times the intoxication that defines drunken driving in the state. Injuries to his rectum led hospital officials to fear he had been sodomized.

Police documents show that when an officer interviewed a fellow fraternity member about what happened, the student said the injuries had been caused by an alcohol enema, known among students as 'butt chugging.'
'It is believed that members of the fraternity were utilizing rubber tubing inserted into their rectums as a conduit for alcohol,' according to a police report.
While Broughton told police he remembered participating in a drinking game with fellow members of the Pi Kappa Alpha chapter, he denied having an alcohol enema, even though the evidence said otherwise.
'He also had no recollection of losing control of his bowels and defecating on himself,' according to a university police report that includes photos of the mess left behind in the fraternity house after the party.

Student almost dies after 'alcohol enema' at college frat party

Alexander Broughton, 20, (photo below) was brought to hospital unconscious where he almost died after being given an 'alcohol enema' at Pi Kappa Alpha House, University of Tennessee. (photo below)

Alexander was rushed to hospital unconscious after a rubber tube was inserted into his rectum and alcohol poured in.

This method of partying is known among students as 'butt chugging'.

Using the enema speeds up the alcohol entering the blood stream because it bypasses the liver's filters.
As a result, Alexander was found to have a dangerously-high blood alcohol level of 'well over' 0.4.
Hospital staff treating the unconscious student at first thought he was the victim of a sexual assault when they examined his body.
(that's because he made an Ass out of himself)

but later the hospital staff learned from his friends that he had been given the crude alcohol enema at the frat house in Knoxville.
Doctors at the UT Medical Center said the student had ingested so much alcohol he could have died from alcohol poisoning.

University officials have now suspended the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity while police investigate the drinking party.
Broughton, who is from Memphis, was taken to hospital by a friend in the early hours of Saturday morning, according to a police report.
The student appeared to be 'extremely intoxicated and showed signs of physical and possible sexual assault'.
He was transferred to the hospital's critical care unit after his blood alcohol reading was put at 'well over' 0.4.

Police said: 'Upon extensive questioning it is believed that members of the fraternity were using rubber tubing inserted into their rectums as a conduit for alcohol as the abundance of capillaries and blood vessels present greatly heightens the level and speed of the alcohol entering the blood stream as it bypasses the filtering by the liver.'
A spokesman for the University of Tennessee said: 'University officials are currently conducting an investigation into allegations involving the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity chapter and incidents that occurred over the weekend.
'Due to the gravity of the allegations, interim sanctions have already been imposed upon the chapter and will remain in effect until the investigation is concluded and final reports are available.'
It is not the first time this fraternity has been involved in trouble at the university.
In 2008, the chapter was placed on administrative suspension after a hazing incident where pledges were allegedly asked to do push-ups on broken glass.
Three students were later hospitalized with staph infections. A member of the fraternity said pledges were asked perform a 'lateral ab movement' known as 'bows and toes' on the bathroom floor.

Hillary Gone Wild

Forget the fact that Hillary Clinton took on Mr McCain at sucking down vodka shots when the two senators were on a congressional tour of Estonia in 2004.

This time around Hillary was in Columbia, not on spring break, even though it seemed that way.

As you can see she's just knocking back a beer and taking to the dance floor to Cuban music at a local club.

Arriving at the club just after midnight, the former first lady and her entourage took over its last remaining table. Clinton sucked down her Aguila cerveza straight from the bottle, while the group ordered a dozen beers, two glasses of whiskey and bottles of water.
As Clinton danced the rumba, 11 Secret Service agents were summoned back to Washington from Colombia after being caught in an embarrassing hooker scandal.

As you can see from past photos, the Secretary of State is no stranger to alcohol.

Bootleg alcohol kills 143 in India

At least 143 people have died after toxic bootleg alcohol in India's West Bengal state.

Residents of 12 villages became ill after drinking the alcohol, and ten bootleggers have been arrested.

Dozens more people are being treated in hospital, (photo above)
with fears the death toll could rise.
Many died at home, afraid the police would take action against them.

The bootleg alcohol deaths are becoming a regular thing in India.

Last week, the state of Gujarat introduced a new law making the illegal manufacture and sale of toxic alcohol there punishable by death.

As you can see from the photos there are many lying in the corridors with their saline drips.
There are simply not enough beds for them.

The mortuary is so full of bodies, the dead have been laid on the steps outside. Many died trying to get to this hospital.
Most of the dead were day laborers and rickshaw pullers who worked in the villages.

A district health officer said that methanol, a toxic form of alcohol, had been found in many of the victims who had drunk the bootleg booze, popularly known as “chepti.”

Apparently, the bootleg alcohol was watered down, then pesticides and other chemicals were mixed in to give it flavor.

The liquor is packed in cans and delivered all over the district and other parts of the state in buses and on trains.
Retailers sell sachets after filling them up with the liquor.

Paralyzed in his sleep: Drunk university Student falls from bed

Even though alcohol has health benefits, there are times when it has it's problems.

When 20 year old Kei Usami, a university student went to sleep drunk, he woke up in hospital paralysed from the neck down.
It seems the drunk Kei fell four feet from his dorm bed, hitting his head so hard that he fractured his spine.

Surprise, surprise, a law suit has been brought against the Bronx college for not installing guardrails on the side of the bed.

As expected, the school blames Mr Usami, who had been partying that night with friends, deciding to consume large amounts of alcohol.

Hey Kids, it's Happy Hour at Applebee's

Back in 2007 Applebee's had an incident in the Bay Area where a year a two-year-old boy became sick after drinking a margarita, complete with tequila and triple sec, his parents thought it was apple juice.

At the time the restaurant said the juice and margarita mix were stored in similar containers, and that was the reason for the mistake. After that the restaurant kept alcohol and juices in containers that no longer looked alike.
But this past Friday just last week a 15-month-old boy had the same thing happen to him at another Applebee's near Detroit.
The boy's parents said they ordered him an apple juice. He took several drinks then put his head on the table and fell asleep.
They say he woke up a short time later and was very happy, saying "hi" and "bye" to people as they passed their table and talking to the walls.
The mother took her son to a hospital and found that his blood alcohol level was .01. That's over the legal limit for an adult driver.
The drink again turned out to be a margarita.
The local Applebee's manager apologized, and the national office could only say the incident unacceptable.
Applebee’s corporate spokeswoman Nancy Mays said that the restaurant chain is conducting an independent review of the situation.
“Obviously any situation like this is unacceptable,” she said in an e-mailed statement. “We are cooperating with local authorities and conducting our own investigation to assess exactly what happened.”

The Priest Celebrates Early

Priest Kury, 35, was arrested because he drove his car off the road and failed a field sobriety test.
When he was brought back to the police station, the good priest blew a .203 in a breathalyzer test, far beyond Ohio's legal limit of .08.
While he was handcuffed to the wall in a temporary cell , he exposed himself, and went into a rage.
His tearful jail cell sermon covered a variety of subjects, including: Oprah Winfrey and Sarah Palin to Libya and patriotism, all the time demanding to be released.
"Christ on the cross, you got these shackles on me," he said. "I'll give you the sermon on the mount, your sermon on the mount is this: get this f-–g bars off me 'cuz I'm getting a rash."
With Fat Tuesday and Lent just around the corner we bring you two fun videos of the priest from Ohio:

Monahan Funeral Home to Open Irish Pub

City officials in Rhode Island Providence have granted a liquor license to the owners of
Monahan Funeral Home.
They will be remodeling their attached garage into an Irish bar and grille named "McBride's."
Some area businesses are not at all happy about this but the owners have agreed to close earlier than most area bars, 11pm weekdays and midnight on weekends.
Mark Russell, the operator of Monahan Funeral Home, hopes to be open by St. Patrick's Day.

Before anyone else says it, "people will be dying to get there."

Another San Francisco Proposed Tax Increase on Alcohol

While we are on the topic of San Francisco and alcohol taxes, there is a proposed tax increase  on alcohol has been given the green light for signatures by the secretary of state's office.
That means it very well may be on the November ballot.
If it does, voters will be asked to skyrocket the tax on alcohol.

This initiative would raise the state excise tax on a regular bottle of wine from 4 cents to $5.11.

The excise tax on a six-pack of beer would increase from 11 cents to $6.08 and the tax on a 750 ml bottle of spirits would go from 65 cents to $17.57.

Once again the citizens of San Francisco are being asked to believe it would raise $7 to $9 billion that would go to support alcohol-related programs and services.

We'll watch and see if it gets on the ballot,  and if it does, how many people are actually helped.

San Francisco City Leaders Want to tax Alcohol

The always helpful, ever selfless, city leaders in San Francisco considering a tax  on alcohol that would go to cover some of the costs linked to drinking too much.

Small laws, and small tax increases, here and there may not seem like much but they have the uncanny ability to develop into bigger things.

While this is not prohibition in the traditional sense, the city planners don't want alcohol to go away, they want the tax money, they don't care if you drink too much, just as long as you pay the tax.

The San Francisco Board of Supervisors want to tax wholesalers and distributors that would add about 3 cents to a 12-ounce bottle of beer, 4.5 cents to a 6-ounce glass of wine and 3.5 cents to a standard drink with 1.5 ounces of hard alcohol.

What it's really all about  is the $16 million a year it would bring in, according to the city's controller's office.

Once they get a taste of $16 million dollars, where will it go from there?

We are promised, the money would be used to help cover expenses the taxpayers end up paying for emergency room visits that go unpaid, prevention programs, a sobering center and ambulance transports.
San Francisco Supervisor John Avalos, the the main supporter of the legislation said:
"As an elected official, I am constantly asked to do more to help those who have fallen prey to alcohol abuse. This fee will enable the city to continue the work to make our sidewalks safer and provide hope and dignity for people struggling in the streets and alleys,"

Well, if $16 million dollars can do all that for the sidewalks and struggling people, imagine what $30 million could do, how about $50 million?
Where does it stop?
When it comes to tax money it usually doesn't stop.

The alcohol and hospitality industries are against the tax, arguing that it would hurt business and kill jobs, and this idea is supported by Supervisor Bevan Dufty.

"I just think that in this difficult economic time, adding on a new fee is not the right thing to do," said Dufty.

And if it does pass, Mayor Gavin Newsom has promised to veto the legislation.

We know the photo above doesn't fit the report, but we love the photo.

So perhaps at the end of the day this piece of tax legislation won't pass in San Francisco.
But beware, there are money hungry politicians everywhere who claim they only want to help.

Do Drinkers Really Outlive Non-Drinkers?

Could this possibly be true,  big drinkers outlive nondrinkers?

In the journal Alcoholism: Clinical and Experimental Research suggests that for reasons that no one really understands, not drinking alcohol actually increases one's risk of dying.
The most surprising thing is, people who don't drink have mortality rates that are much higher than moderate drinkers.
Moderate drinking, meaning, one to three drinks per day, is the group with the lowest mortality rates in alcohol studies.

But why would not drinking alcohol lead to a shorter life?
Perhaps there is no definitive answer, but moderate alcohol use is thought to improve heart health and circulation.
Any other explanation is probably mere speculation.

Researchers found that over a 20-year period, mortality rates were highest for those who had never been drinkers, second-highest for heavy drinkers and lowest for moderate drinkers.

The 1,824 participants were followed for 20 years.
Almost 70% % of the never-drinkers died during those 20 years, 60% of the heavy drinkers died and only 41% of moderate drinkers died.

Even though heavy drinking is associated with higher health risks, heavy drinkers are less likely to die than people who have never drank alcohol.

The authors of the new paper are careful to point out that even though drinking is associated with longer life, it can also mess up your life.
When a person becomes dependent and addicted to alcohol, much of their longer life may be spent trying to get off the bottle.

Many Britons turn to alcohol when stressed

The number of people in Briton who drink alcohol when they feel stressed has risen over the past several years.
The report says as many as five million people in the country are completely stressed out and a third of the work force is so stressed out by their job that their sleep is affected.
As a result, many find resolve in drinking so they can relax.
Sadly, the UK is one of the most stressed nations in all of Europe.
Money, family pressures, and long hours at work are all part of the problem as to why half of the British population say that they feel more stress than they did 5 years ago.

A survey of over 3,000 employees discovered that many feel so stressed before they even start work and six percent say they feel stressed all the time.
A third claimed to have called in sick because they were feeling stressed and 12 percent said they had quit a job altogether.
57 percent also said they had the need for a beer or a glass of wine when they got home to relax and get over their day.
A spokesperson for Medicash, which commissioned the study, said: "Worryingly, a third of Britons admitted in the survey to having deliberately drunk too much in a bid to relax and escape work stress."

Cheers, the benefits of alcohol

After we ran the post about beer and bones, we thought we would offer up a little something about the benefits of alcohol.
You already know that red wine has heart benefits, but what does drinking have on the rest of your body? Research shows that moderate alcohol intake, no more than two drinks per day (one drink is equal to 12 ounces of beer, four ounces of wine or one-and-a-half ounces of 80-proof spirits)—has a variety of healthy benefits.

Just for starters, here are three benefits:

1. Better Memory
Adults 75 years and older who have a drink or two a day end up with a 37 percent lower risk of developing dementia compared to those who completely abstain. Alcohol may stimulate the release of acetylcholine, a brain chemical important for memory.
2. Less Inflammation
Research found that “Alcohol helps with inflammation and definitely will reduce pain,” says Alirio Melendez, MD, PhD, senior lecturer at the University of Glasgow. “Many scientists believe that a glass of wine each day may help control potential inflammatory diseases that would otherwise appear.”
3. Longer Life
Harvard researchers found that drinking moderate amounts of alcohol was linked to living longer.  And red wine contains important antioxidants that could help people live longer, says study author Dimitros Trichopoulos, MD, professor of cancer prevention and epidemiology at the Harvard School of Public Health.

Experts agree that if you don’t drink to begin with, don’t start. But, a drink or two per day has some potential health benefits. The key word here is moderation.
Most studies found that excessive or binge drinking cancels out any healthy benefits, not to mention that it can result in a host of other serious problems, like liver damage and heart failure.

Illinois Braces for Higher Taxes at Grocery Stores

Well well well, it's happening in Chicago.
The increase in the state taxes paid on candy, soft drinks and some alcoholic beverages is now in motion and it's probably just the beginning.
Lovers of carbonated drinks, candy made without flour and alcohol will see price increases as revisions to the state sales tax go into effect.
The extra money is expected to pay for repairs to state roads, schools and bridges.

News of the increase confused consumers and some tax experts by the way certain candy items were re-categorized as general merchandise rather than as candy, which is taxed at a lower rate.

Under the revisions, candy items bought in Chicago without flour are subject to the full 10.25 percent general merchandise sales tax. Meanwhile, candy made with flour will retain its current 2.25 percent tax rate. Most carbonated soft drinks have also been tossed from the food category and subject to the 10.25 percent rate in the city.

Soft drinks and sweets are quickly becoming tax targets and the pretense that it's purpose to fight the fat is almost laughable because the new tax would probably have little effect on obesity.
